Breast surgery was reported to have been one of the most popular elective procedure that women still managed to find money for when the economy was at its worst. In one year the American Society for Plastic Surgeons reported that 302,000 breast augmentation where done. This just goes to show how important women regard their breasts to be. This might have something to do with the standard of beauty that is always changing but never quite moving away from breasts.
The standard for breasts has always remained the same even when everything else that “defined” beauty changed. As long as women keep having children and ageing, they will always worry about breasts losing their perkiness, their fullness whether or not a woman has aspirations to fit into the 35-24-34 standard of perfect body proportions or not.
The sudden spike in breast surgeries might also have to do with the FDA’s approval of Silicone implants which now gives women a choice. Silicone has now been deemed safe to use because a lot of people have had problems with saline implants leaking whereas Silicone does not leak. Silicone is a more cohesive material. Breast surgery has advanced to a point where surgeons have better options of reshaping women’s breasts and improving on nature.
